My current theory: They're a genetic offshoot bio-engineering program created by the Locust. Their project was a success and bred the Swarm and then the Swarm got out from under their control and are now self perpetuating.
They abducted Sofia for reasons not yet known (new Queen position for the budding Swarm?) but ultimately related to this project. I think that another sect of the CoG, or even just the remnants of the Onyx Guard, started to engage in some more New Hope level bio research with all the dead Locust bodies. With reports of the Swarm taking people and how Juvies look like people I'm inclined to believe that the Swarm Drones were throwing people into whatever biological blender birthed them. The Drones look like they went into a biological blender with a bunch of other crap. Note how Juvies look vaguely human and how some of the Swarm Drones have patches of mottled skin like Locust Drones used to have. This was never explained and still looms as a loose thread. Not sure how accurate it might be but I have a theory that ties in with the end of GoWJ.Īt the end of GoWJ Sofia and Garron are off on their own when Sofia is abducted by CoG soldiers.
